They are, however, pawns in a larger conflict, involving "Immortals" - historical characters such as Nicholas Flamel and Machiavelli who are trying to encourage/prevent the return of the "Ancients" who aim to enslave humankind. The protagonists are twin American teenagers with extraordinary magical abilities. This series is at least as good as, perhaps better than, Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series This is the first novel of an entirely gripping series: The Alchemyst, The Magician, and The Sorceress are already out, with three more to come. The story takes place in contemporary San Francisco, Paris, and London (so far).
Book 1 The Alchemyst, Book 2 The Magician, Book 3 the sorceress, book 4 the necromancer, book 5 the warlock, book 6 the enchantress. This is NOT AT ALL related to harry potter despite suspicions because of the sorcer's stone was maade by nicholas flamel but nicholas is a common character because of his reputation. Intriguing story but has a cliff hangar ending because of the sequals. Don't buy until book six (the last book of the series ([.].)is out.
It is equally as good. I am now reading the magician. I enjoyed The Alchemyst very much. I love adventures and this book is one great adventure.
The action is fast paced, the characters are engaging and Scott has created a fantasmagorical world of mystery and mahem that is addictive. Michael Scott is, in a word, genius. I hope he writes hundreds of books in this series. Can't wait to dive into the other books. When I saw The Sorceress on the NYT best seller list, I wanted to read the series from the beginning. I was not disappointed.
I hope everyone enjoys this book. I think it was a great book and I already able to tell that the entire series is going to be great. I it was so good that I ripped through the book so fast I was sad when it ended.
